Beach Vacation to Batumi, Georgia

Hello and welcome back to Blogging with Reese!

Today’s post is travel post! I know I haven’t done a travel post in a reallllllllly long time (weird, because I used to do, like, all travel posts), but that’s mostly because I haven’t been travelling a whole lot. However, a couple weeks ago, I went to the beach!

So today I’m gonna be writing about how that went!

Day 1, Monday, June 14th, 2021

I woke up at my usual time, around just before 6am, and got ready to go. I’d already packed my bag the night before, so it was pretty easy to get out the door. (hey, I just rhymed!)

We took the Metro to the train station, and from there we caught the 8am train to Batumi. The train ride took about 5.5 hours, so I mostly read, listened to music and caught up on my journaling.

Outside of Tbilisi

Oh, and of course I also took pictures! 🤪

About halfway there
The Black Sea!

When we finally got to Batumi, we were really hungry, so we dropped our bags off at our apartment we’d rented and then went out to find lunch.

We found a nice restaurant about a block from our apartment and had some Adjarian khatchapuri, which is regional to the area Batumi is in. Khatchapuri is a Georgian bread with cheese and an almost raw egg on top. You mix it together and then rip off a chunk of bread to dip in.

Then we decided to go to the beach!

The water was a good temperature, but the beach was a rock beach, so it was really hard to walk around. Plus there were a ton of jellyfish in the water, so I didn’t go in very deep.

Swimming in the Black Sea

After swimming, we walked around the park by the sea for a bit.

It was really nice to just walk around, people watch and breath in the fresh, salty sea air.

Later, we decided to go on the ferris wheel! It was super fun, because we usually never go on touristy things like that!

After that, we made our way back to our apartment where I then read for a bit before going to bed for the night.

Day 2, Tuesday, June 15th, 2021

I woke up around 6-ish, then had breakfast and read. We mostly just lazed around in the morning before deciding to go rent some bikes and ride them around the promenade by the Black Sea.

It was awesome, because I hadn’t ridden a bike in months!

At around 12 we returned the bikes, then went to a little cafe by the beach and had some iced tea.

After that, we went back to the apartment to rest for a bit before going out again. My sister, Claire, and I went swimming. The waves were really rough and we got pounded into the rocks a lot, but it was still fun!

Getting bashed into the rocks

Once we were done swimming, we picked up a type of Georgian bread called a shoti, and went back to the apartment.

I read more, then went to sleep.

Day 3, Wednesday, June 16, 2021

We had chocolate crossaints from a bakery for breakfast!

They weren’t the best, but they were still good!

Then we left the apartment and caught the bus to the botanical gardens, which are a little ways out of Batumi.

We wandered around there all day, looking at the flowers and different trees. There were some cool lookout points where you could see the sea and Batumi.

At around 4pm we caught the bus back to Batumi and went back to the apartment so I could go to my drama club! Because it’s totally awesome and even though I was on vacay, I couldn’t not go to it.

After that, we had dinner and then went to go see the light show on the promenade!

It was really cool, even though it wasn’t totally in sync with the music.

We were pretty tired after that, so we went back and I fell asleep almost immediately.

Day 4, Thursday, June 17th, 2021

We didn’t do a whole lot on Thursday. Mostly we just rested, because we’d kinda worn ourselves out, and it was rainy 😂

But my dad, Claire and I decided to go to McDonald’s, because we’d heard that it is better in Georgia than in Canada and the U.S.

Plus it looks really cool in Batumi.

My dad is reading The Martian to me and my sister right now (also that’s the reason it’s been on my goodreads for months; we hardly ever read it), so we ordered our food and read.

The food tasted like average Maccers food to me. There wasn’t anything special about it.

After reading for a super long time, we went back and just chilled at the apartment. I read my own book, and then went to my theatre class because it was dress rehearsal day!

I had a lot of fun!

Then we went to go have some dinner. The restaurant we picked was really loud, and the service was not the best, so it wasn’t awesome. My dad went to go watch the Euro 2020 football game at a pub, so my mom, Claire and I went down to the beach to watch the sunset.

Let me tell you, it was G – O – R – G – E – O – U – S.

My mom and sister and I were also reading a different book together, so we sat on the beach and read that.

After a while we headed back to the apartment and went to bed.

Day 5, Friday, June 18th, 2021

Friday was our last day in Batumi, so we decided to go down to the beach and swim. Unfortunately, the water was really gross looking and full of sewage, so we didn’t get to swim.

My dad read The Martian to me and Claire, and then we went back to the apartment to pack our bags and go to the train station.

Our train left at 2:50, so we had enough time to get some lunch too.

After that, we caught the train back to Tbilisi. It was a really awesome week overall, and I had a lot of fun!

I know that this post is pretty long, so if you’ve read all the way to here, give yourself a pat on the back! Also, guess what?!

I vlogged this trip as well, and you can check out the video version of this trip on YouTube here!

That’s all for this week, but I have a super fun post for next week, which may or may not be the 500 followers celebration thing I’ve totally not been procrastinating!

Where’s your favourite place to go to the beach? Beach or mountains for vacation? What’s your favourite food that’s not from your country? Do you want to see more travel posts like this?

Hi! I'm Reese! I'm 13 years old and a TOTAL bookworm (like, huge). Some of my favourite series are Harry Potter, Keeper Of The Lost Cities, and a bazillion other ones (the list is too long to write down). When I'm not reading - which isn't very often - I'm either writing, practicing my photography, or attempting to learn gymnastics by myself. Oh yeah, and I got watercolour paints a while ago, so I'm also painting! I am Canadian, but my family and I travel all around the world! I've been to 13 different countries so far!

  1. I loved this post!! I haven’t gone on anywhere- the last time I went 1km away from my home was 6 months ago. Baruni sure looks like an amazing place. I am not sure I will swim in the Black sea. The black colour looks scary. U don’t know what’s in there. Huhu. I want to see more such posts!!!

  2. Great photos. I grew up on the Atlantic coast of the US. Virginia Beach was our favorite place to go. When I was in college, if you were going to the beach after class, you threw a beach towel in the back window, and when class was over, you might have two or three riders sitting in your car ready for their free ride to the beach. Those were simpler, safer days, the 60s.
